TWIN FORKS NURSERY & TREE FARM

Since 2002, our Twin Forks Nursery has been providing the East End with a wide variety of trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables that are particularly suited to our local environment and the select preferences of our unique community.

PLANTINGS

TREES & SHRUBS

  • We specialize in large evergreen trees, specifically chosen for their ability to create living privacy screens. We also offer a diverse array of common tree varieties, ornamental and fruit trees--all seamlessly integrated into larger landscapes.

  • Choose from our carefully curated selections of both flowering shrubs (such as Roses, Rose of Sharon, Weigelas or Viburnums) and non-flowering shrubs (like Boxwood, Japanese Holly, and Creeping Junipers).

FLOWER GARDENS AND MEADOWS

  • We prioritize sustainable and eco-friendly practices, ensuring your garden not only captivates the eye but also nurtures the environment. Whether you have a cozy backyard or an expansive estate, our designers specialize in tailoring floral landscapes to suit your preferences. From intimate cottage gardens to vast wildflower meadows, we provide the charm and elegance that aligns with your vision.

VEGETABLE GARDENS

  • Our nursery's selection of fruits and vegetables is cultivated with care and dedication to the commitment we have towards providing our clients with homegrown produce. Grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, our vegetables are nurtured in nutrient-rich soil, allowing them to thrive naturally and contribute to a healthier ecosystem and a greener future.

NATURAL & IMAGINATIVE PLANTINGS

  • Natural and imaginative plantings in landscaping bring visual charm to the forefront. We integrate native plants to support local ecosystems and draw a greater diversity of wildlife. By incorporating natural landscapes or getting creative with themes like butterfly gardens or edible landscapes, these plantings offer year-round interest and offer educational opportunities for appreciating nature while enjoying beautiful outdoor spaces.

RE-VEGETATION

Benefits of Insects in the Ecosystem

  • Gardeners often think of insects as a pest that must be eradicated. However, the number of insect species that cause harm is very small in comparison to the great range of beneficial insect species that are critical to the survival of most life on Earth.  Bats, birds, freshwater fish require insects for their survival. Along with plants, insects are at the foundation of the food web, and most of the plants and animals we eat rely on insects for food or pollination.

  • As pollinators, insects ensure the reproduction and dispersal of plants and flowers. Additionally, they contribute to the ecosystem by decomposing waste, returning organic matter to the earth. The role extends beyond their own survival – they sustain entire food webs from the ground-up. So next time you see a buzzing bee or a fluttering butterfly, remember that these tiny creatures are the unsung heroes of the ecosystem.

  • Our understanding of Earth’s ecosystems has grown tremendously thanks to Doug Tallamy, a professor in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware. He has done extensive research in the last 40 years and found that most of our native insects do not feed on plants from Europe and Asia but require native plant species for food. The good news is that many of our native plants are very beautiful and that if just 70 percent of plants in an area are native, it is enough to have ecological function.

Re-establishment of Native Vegetation (aka Re-Veg)

  • The Town of Southampton and East Hampton have regulations that protect our environment.  These regulations provide opportunities to landscape your property into something that is ecologically functional, as well as beautiful. Understanding the approved plant list and the ornamental value of those plants creates a world of possibilities.
